This piece was inspired by In the Patio No. IV (1948) and Patio with Black Door (1955). O'Keeffe painted her Patio Door series primarily while living at her home in Abiqui, New Mexico. The house, built in the Spanish Colonial style with Native American influences, featured a large wooden door which she became deeply fascinated by.
