Grouse MaskThis Gyidakhanis Grouse Mask was hand carved in 1983 by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Max Chickite. It has been carved from red cedar, painted in black, blue, and red acrylis and adorned with cedar bark and feathers. It was purchased from a collection and is in excellent condition. The mask is named after a dance from the Kwakwaka'wakw First Nation. The grouse is the caller. In some potlach ceremonies the grouse calls the other animals out onto the floor. The
