42 - Vincetoxicum 2004 (33.25 x 21.25 oil on canvas, unframed)Pale Swallow wort or Dog Strangling Vine, painted as part of a series of invasive plants. Here across the road from the Spencerville Fairground, it has made a waist high tangled mass of vines spreading up a gentle slope between the trees. Behind me, individual vines climbed head high into the shade of the woods. I painted the scene on site, and brought home plants in flower, pod, and seed, to paint around the frame.
